Iconic

Can you believe that just 11 years ago we lived in a world filled with living legends such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Robin Williams, and Kobe Bryant? To me icons seem invincible it feels like they’re gonna live forever & we will get to see each one of them grow old, share stories of themselves of when they were in their prime, & leave a legacy that’ll last generations. 

With achievements & accomplishments as great as these, not even our greatest works can stop death. Rest In Peace Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, & everyone else who was on that fatal helicopter ride. 

Just last month my brother & I were talking in his room around his many Kobe Bryant posters & even a self portrait drawing of him & Kobe together. “Still a Kobe fan, huh?” I said. “He’s the best,” my brother replied. My bro was a sold out fan for Kobe for the longest & it hurts me to know how much it hurts him that he lost someone he really looked up to, even if he never met him. I texted him yesterday that I was sorry to hear about the news & he said that he was hurt & that’s the part that sucks to know that so many people around the world are in pain because we lost someone so great. 

There is a time for everything & this is definitely a time to mourn but it’s a time to remember too. We can remember the impact these huge icons & legends had on our lives & how we’re better off for it. To know that even if we never met someone their sphere of influence is irrefutable & we get to live out what they never got to see or even knew was happening in their fan’s lives. 

Icons come & go but we as fans & the influenced have the opportunity to go & live lives that are just as or even more iconic as well. What legacy is greater than that? Peace. ✌️

I told y’all, give me around a year & I’ll tell you what I thought about his newest album. Well…here we go.   Kendrick Lamar, one of the greatest rappers of all time won another Grammy, again. This dude grinds on his albums. They’re always complex, have something new to say, & touch on relevant & important issues. But did it deserve a Grammy & was it even great in the first place? I would be remiss to not mention the sales. 35,000 in the US. For some artists this would be big but for one of the biggest rap artists on the planet this doesn’t look too good. It’s not an indicator that ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ was bad, it’s just saying that people weren’t rocking with it too much besides the die hard Kung Fu Kenny fans of course. When you compare this to his last 3 studio albums for instance, all three went platinum including DAMN & Good Kid, Madd City which both went 3 times platinum. He back! (Kevin Hart)

Man am I glad Kevin Hart’s okay. While he was in hospital, I kept thinking why isn’t this in the news more often? Why isn’t this more of a big concern?  I thought this because I knew if we lost him, there would be a big hole in comedy, the hearts of his family & fans, & dare I say Hollywood (raise your hand if you’ve ever seen a Kevin Hart film  🙋🏽‍♂️ , we all have).  I recently checked Instagram this morning & the news was better than I ever thought it could be. He’s doing well, recovering, & giving God all the glory for it. What does this mean for his usually explicit comedy but more importantly his life in the future? With every good idea comes a clock

Ever since I could remember good ideas comes & go. Some stay for a season, some stay for longer but if they’re not executed were they ever a real idea in the first place? I saw these adverts around SF that annoyed me. They showed these normal looking people in black & white pictures with a big label in front calling them doers. The message seemed as if they were better than us normal folk who sometimes dream a little longer than others before acting on them. Are they better than us (dreamers) & if so why are they? In 2010 at the age of 18 I started rapping after being inspired by the likes of CHH artists such as Lecrae, Bizzle, & Swoope (my three favorite rappers at the time & yes they’re all spelled correctly 😂 ). They were all amazing, I wanted to make music just like them, & I even wanted to make an album one day that featured all of them on separate tracks. Did this ever happen, no.
