Been praying for this guy since I was 16

Jesus is King, a message that’s been preached for over 2000 years. Nearly all have suffered for this message (some much more than others) but there always seems to be some kind of scrutiny that comes up against the preaching of the Gospel. Enter Kanye West 2019, that one dude who was never afraid to say what’s on his mind.

I’ve been praying for Kanye to know Jesus since I was 16 & haven’t stopped since. Ever since I heard “The College Dropout” my views on hip hop changed dramatically. I fell in love with the genre in a whole new way. The sampling, memorable choruses, & really clever rhyming set the bar super high in 2004. Yes we had other dope artists out at the moment: OutKast, Busta, Eminem, etc. but Kanye brought a whole new sound.

One thing you have to admire about Kanye is his persistence in always pushing his music to the next level. As explicit as the lyrics may be “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” sounds nothing like “Yeezus” & the former sounds absolutely nothing like the “Life of Pablo” so on & so forth, basically the man as an artist is always evolving.

I joked with a friend a couple of months of ago that if Kanye had retired on his 7th album, shut down his Twitter, & never said another word again the man would be renowned as a legend in the rap game & possibly one of the most respected & talented artists of all time, but that route is SO not Kanye.

The criticism about George Bush in his TV appearance with Mike Myers, the infamous mic grabbing from Taylor Swift to tell the world Beyoncé’s video was better, & most recently siding with the agenda of possibly one of the most controversial presidents in American history (this is not a political post let’s keep moving forward).

Anyway Kanye’s path has always been abnormal but it has always been original. To be a fan of him a lot of people (including myself) like to say we’re fans of the ‘old Kanye’ but let’s talk about the October 2019 Kanye West we see now.

On the 25th of this month (today) Kanye dropped his ninth studio album “Jesus is King” & the Christian audience is already going HAM on their beliefs & opinions in the comment sections. Funny enough Kanye himself saw this coming & addressed it on track 9, here are some of his words:

“Said I'm finna do a gospel album/What have you been hearin' from the Christians?”
“They'll be the first one to judge me/Make it feel like nobody love me”
“They'll be the first one to judge me.”

Sadly sounds like somebody who knows the reaction of (some) of the modern church too accurately.

This man needs Jesus like we all do, he says he’s found Him, some will believe him, some won’t, but is it our job as Christians to question the man’s decision for Christ or is it our responsibility to continue to pray for him like everybody else who also need Jesus? News flash we all do! What if next week he’s back to his old controversial self, we pray. What if he continues to move forward as a man of God, makes a couple of mistakes like we all did when first accepting Christ but tries to do his best to stay on the right path? We pray.

Our jobs were never to shove a mirror in people’s faces to expose their flaws but instead to be a reflection of a Savior who covered those flaws in the first place.

So I’m gonna prove Kanye wrong on this one by not being a Christian that judges him. For 10 years so far & 10 years more I’ll be keeping him & his fam in my prayers because no matter how things may look on the outside, only God & Kanye himself truly know what’s He’s doing on the inside. Peace ✌️.
